CONSCIOUSNESS AT THE CROSSROADS: Conversations with the Dalai Lama on Brain Science and Buddhism

Again my thanks to Smokey for more wonderful ebooks.

CONSCIOUSNESS AT THE CROSSROADS: Conversations with the Dalai Lama on Brain Science and Buddhism

Organized by the Mind and Life Institute, this discussion addresses some of the most troublesome questions that have driven a wedge between Western science and religion. Consciousness at the Crossroads resulted from meetings of the Dalai Lama and a group of eminent neuroscientists and psychiatrists. Is the mind an ephemeral side-effect of the brain's physical processes? Are there forms of consciousness so subtle that science has not yet identified them? How does consciousness happen? The Dalai Lama's incisive, clear approach and open-minded pursuit of knowledge both challenges and offers inspiration to Western scientists.

Wonders of the Natural Mind, New Edition: The Essence of Dzogchen in the Native Bon Tradition of Tibet

My thanks to Smokey for these great books.

Wonders of the Natural Mind, New Edition: The Essence of Dzogchen in the Native Bon Tradition of Tibet

Based on the fundamental Zhang Zhung Nyan Gyud, a Bon text, the author presents the main points of Dzogchen, its relation to various systems within Bon, and some reflections on Dzogchen in the West. Although the Dzogchen teachings are principally familiar to Westerners through the teachings of the Nyingma school, they also survive in the ancient Bon religion of Tibet. In offering these teachings Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche provides the reader with a vivid and engaging portrait of Bon culture as he interweaves the teachings with his personal life story.

The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep - Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche

The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep - Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche
This book gives detailed instructions for dream yoga, including foundational practices done during the day. In the Tibetan tradition, the ability to dream lucidly is not an end in itself, rather it provides an additional context in which one can engage in advanced and effective practices to achieve liberation. Dream yoga is followed by sleep yoga, also known as the yoga of clear light. It is a more advanced practice where the goal is to stay conscious during deep sleep, when the gross mind and senses cease to operate and subtle mind is actualised. Most Westerners do not even consider this depth of awareness a possibility, yet it is well known in Tibetan Buddhist and Bon traditions.

Sacred Tibetan Chants from the Great Prayer Festival - Tibetan Monks Of Drepung Loseling Monastery

Sacred Tibetan Chants from the Great Prayer Festival - Tibetan Monks Of Drepung Loseling Monastery
An ample and well-written text details the purpose behind these ritual chants, among which a rare cycle is heard in its entirety. The remoteness of Tibet created and preserved a musical practice which is absolutely unique. For those familiar with Tibetan chanting, it will be a welcome offering to hear the chanting from this once-vital monastery. Once being the keyword, as the text underscores the genocide and destruction vented on the peaceful Tibetean nation by the occupying Chinese, a horrific tragedy which continues... The monastery, or better, its survivors, went into exile in India.
